One of Europe’s most renowned setters is joining a Ukrainian club!

Former captain of the German men’s national volleyball team, Lukas Kampa, has become a player of the Lviv-based club “Barkom-Kazhany.”
The German setter is well known to fans of the Polish PlusLiga, having played eleven seasons in the Polish championship.
Ukrainian fans should also remember Lukas well, as he played for Lokomotyv Kharkiv – the most decorated volleyball club in Ukraine – in the 2012/13 season.
Throughout his career, Kampa has represented several top European clubs: Polish sides Trefl Gdańsk (2021–2025),Jastrzębski Węgiel (2016–2021),Czarni Radom (2014–2016); Italian clubs Modena (2013/14) and Piacenza (2011/12). He also played for Belogorie Belgorod (Russia, 2012/13),Lokomotyv Kharkiv (2012/13),and German teams Volley Bottrop (2010–2012),Friedrichshafen (2008–2010),and Moerser SC (2006–2008).
The 38-year-old setter recently announced his retirement from the German national team. Over his 15-year career with the national side: 242 matches, two Olympic quarterfinals, silver at Euro 2017, and bronze at the 2014 World Championship. His final tournament was the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, where Germany reached the quarterfinals.
In addition to his successful playing career, Kampa has been actively involved in volleyball development in his homeland: in 2025 he became the sports spokesperson of the German Volleyball Federation and joined the Presidium of the German Volleyball Association.
The arrival of the experienced setter will be a major boost for the Lviv club ahead of the new season in Poland’s volleyball elite.
