Oleksandr Boiko explains his absence from Ukraine’s national team squad

The absence of Ukraine’s national volleyball team libero Oleksandr Boiko from the extended squad for preparations for the 2026 Nations League season has sparked considerable discussion among fans.
Numerous questions about the coaching staff’s decision have appeared on social media.
As a reminder, the Ukrainian Volleyball Federation announced the extended national team squad today. For the libero position, Argentine coach Raul Lozano selected Yaroslav Pampushko (Barkom-Kazhany) and Oleksandr’s biological brother, Yevhen Boiko (Reshetylivka).
To clarify the situation, volleyball.ua contacted the player directly for a comment. It turned out that the reason was related to the volleyball player’s health.
“I had an old knee injury that required surgery. After consulting with the national team coaching staff, it was decided that I would undergo surgery on April 15, after the end of the club season. Rehabilitation will now begin, and once I recover, I will join the national team! I’m always in touch with the coaches and players, and I’ll support and cheer them on!”Oleksandr Boiko explained.
Thus, the absence of one of the team’s key players is temporary, and Boiko may strengthen Ukraine’s national team again during the season.
