Gdańsk to Host Matches at the 2027 Men’s Volleyball World Championship

The announcement was made by the Polish Volleyball Federation during an official press conference.

The Polish Volleyball Federation has announced that Gdańsk will be one of the host cities for the 2027 Men’s Volleyball World Championship.

“Welcome to ERGO ARENA – the home of Polish volleyball. We have great news for Polish fans: the 2027 World Championship matches will take place right here, on the border between Gdańsk and Sopot. Our venue will host the group stage, as well as the round-of-16 and quarterfinal matches. We are extremely pleased with this decision, which demonstrates not only trust but also many years of successful cooperation. I would like to express my sincere thanks for this,” said Aleksandra Dulkiewicz, Mayor of Gdańsk.

Gdańsk has hosted Poland’s national team matches on numerous occasions. As far back as the 1990s, World League tournaments were held at the Olivia venue. In August 2010, the modern ERGO ARENA was officially opened, with Poland defeating Brazil in a dramatic five-set match.

The venue has repeatedly proved to be a lucky one for the “White and Reds”: it was here that Poland won its first World League medal in 2011, secured its place at the Tokyo Olympic Games, reached the European Championship semifinals in 2021 and celebrated its first-ever Nations League title in 2023.

It is therefore no surprise that the organisers believe the passionate support of Polish fans in the stands of ERGO ARENA will help the “White and Reds” during the group stage of the 2027 World Championship.

*“I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the Polish Volleyball Federation for having the courage to take on such a major undertaking as hosting the World Championship. I am very pleased that Pomerania, and in particular the voivodeship’s capital, Gdańsk, will host the tournament’s opening matches. Our volleyball players have set off from here towards new victories many times before. I hope the same story will repeat itself during the World Championship.

We want to use this event to promote our wonderful region and draw the attention of millions of fans to the Tri-City area and Pomerania. May this become a great celebration for all of us!”* emphasised Mieczysław Struk, Marshal of the Pomeranian Voivodeship.

*“We are delighted to be back at ERGO ARENA and to announce a true celebration of Polish volleyball. I would like to sincerely thank the Mayor and the Marshal for supporting the development of our wonderful sport. Poland’s group will begin its campaign here, but another group will also play at the venue, meaning fans can look forward to at least two matches every day.

Today, we can also present the official World Championship logo, which we received a few days ago. I am delighted that we can unveil it right here,”* concluded Sebastian Świderski, President of the Polish Volleyball Federation.
